Viola singing Santana blues

Fiorentina could again be without the services of winger Mario Santana after he suffered fractures on his left leg.

The Argentinean suffered minor fractures in his left leg and damaged knee ligaments in the 3-1 win over Bologna on Monday.

Santana, who was stretchered off in the 63rd minute, will know his fate in the coming days to decide the severity of the injury and if the ligament damage requires surgery.

The 27-year-old has been an integral part of Fiorentina’s side this season, missing just two Serie A games and playing all of their Champions League group games.

In all, Santana has played 26 games in 2008/2009, scoring once and providing four assists. He now seems almost certain to miss the UEFA Cup tie with Ajax, the first leg of which is later this month.
