Inter not drawn over Drogba

Marco Branca has not ruled out a move for Didier Drogba after allowing Ricardo Quaresma to join Chelsea on loan.

Branca insists the club's transfer targets have yet to be identified but admitted Inter would like to boost their squad by two players at the most.

Quaresma has endured an unhappy time in Italy since his £20million move from Porto last year.

If Quaresma is a success at Stamford Bridge there is every chance coach Luiz Felipe Scolari would want to make the switch a permanent one next summer.

"Chelsea strongly wanted Quaresma, there was no hidden agenda, we only wanted to give him a chance to play more and grow, then next year we will decide what to do with him," said Branca.

Drogba has struggled to find his best form during a season hampered by injury and suspension.

The Ivorian was recently axed from the first-team squad by Scolari after a number of sub-standard performances.

He has been consistently liked with a move to rejoin former Blues boss Jose Mourinho in Serie A but Branca added: "Drogba? At the moment we don't have clear objectives, we know that most probably we will need to buy one or two new players next season, but only of the highest quality."

Quaresma impressed as the Chelsea first team trained at Stamford Bridge yesterday.

Snow had forced the club to switch the session from their normal training HQ at Cobham in Surrey.

Quaresma's Portugal team-mate, Ricardo Carvalho, believes he will be an instant hit in the Barclays Premier League.

The Chelsea defender, struggling to shake off a hamstring injury in time to play against Hull on Saturday, believes the arrival of the Inter forward can provide the inspiration to revive their title ambitions.

Chelsea are three points behind Liverpool and five adrift of leaders Manchester United, who also have a game in hand.

Victory over City on Saturday ahead of Liverpool's late kick-off and United's Sunday clash with West Ham, will help keep them in the hunt.

Quaresma is the sixth Portuguese player at the club and Carvalho maintains their new addition will have no problems adjusting to the physical demands of the top flight in England.

"Quaresma is a very fast and explosive player who is a real warrior on the pitch, so he will be able to handle the physical nature of the Premier League," said Carvalho.

"But at the same time he is a very technical player and can score goals, which will be good for us. He will be a huge help to us at this time of the season."

Carvalho revealed Quaresma had always been interested in coming to England but opted to join up with Mourinho last September.

The move has not worked out and Quaresma was axed from Inter's Champions League squad for the knockout stages.

"He is a very attacking player and that is what we need at Chelsea at the moment," added Carvalho. "At different times with the Portugal national team he would always ask about English football and was interested in what it was like.

"He could have come here last summer but he ended up going to Inter Milan with Jose Mourinho - but it has not worked out for him there.

"Scolari knows Quaresma well and this is an advantage for us. He also knows a lot of players here already, but he will need time to adapt."
