AC Milan vs Reggina Preview
AC Milan will go into Saturday's game against Reggina at the San Siro fully expecting to claim the win and all three points.
The win will keep the pressure on defending champions Inter Milan at the top of Serie A.
The Rossoneri go into the clash inspired by Sunday's 3-0 triumph at Lazio, which saw them step up their Scudetto bid.
The victory meant Carlo Ancelotti's side leapfrogged Juventus after the Turin giants lost 3-2 against Cagliari and saw them cut the deficit to leaders Inter to six points.
With just one point separating the Rossoneri from Juve, and Milan facing their biggest test next weekend in the derby against Inter, Ancelotti's men need no reminder of the importance of taking three points this weekend.
"We must take advantage of our good form to win and give continuity to our play," said Ancelotti.
"Reggina on paper seem an easier rival than others but there are no easy games at this point of the season.
"We want to reduce our deficit with the league leaders."
The Rossoneri, who are without suspended midfielder Andrea Pirlo, will be hoping England midfielder David Beckham can keep up his impressive form.
Beckham set up the the opening two goals in the victory at Lazio and Milan are set to begin negotiations with the Los Angeles Galaxy to keep the on-loan player at the San Siro until the end of the season.
"I think Beckham will give a big contribution to our Scudetto ambitions," claimed Ancelotti.
The Milan boss also expects Brazil duo Alexandre Pato and Kaka to continue their scoring form, with each player having scored 10 goals apiece so far this campaign.
"Pato and Kaka are playing really well," said Ancelotti.
"They are going through a good spell while giving the team creativity and speed up front."
After losing their opening three games of the year, Reggina have showed some improvement of late.
A goalless stalemate at Torino was followed by last Sunday's 2-2 draw against Roma.
Nevio Orlandi's men still have an uphill battle if they wish to avoid the drop by the end of the season, however, and trail seven points behind Bologna, who hold the last position of safety in Serie A.
To make matters worse, Orlandi will be without Antonio Giosa, Edgar Barreto, Luca Vigiani, Franco Brienza and Fabio Ceravolo, who are all out injured.
The only consolation for the visitors is the return of midfielder Carlos Carmona from suspension.
Reggina have not won since November 23 when they beat Atalanta 3-1 and the Amaranto are aware of the challenge they face against Milan.
"We will play against a team made up of top players," said Reggina defender Bruno Cirillo."I watched them play at Lazio and I was impressed of their play."
Cirillo believes his team would be mistaken to focus solely on stopping Beckham.
"Beckham has proved that he is no figurine," added Cirillo.
"He plays fantastic football, he attacks, he defends and has a great touch.
"We are talking about a true champion.
"But we cannot focus just on him but on all the great stars that Ancelotti has available."
