Zambrotta: I regret nothing

Milan defender Gianluca Zambrotta has revealed that he has no regrets about leaving high-flying Barcelona for Serie A.

Whilst Barcelona have been leading the way in Spain and reaching the last-16 of this season's Champions League, Milan find themselves 11 points behind league leaders Inter and were knocked out of the UEFA Cup by Germany's Werder Bremen on Thursday.

A string of notable performances have seen Zambrotta earn plaudits galore during his San Siro stint, and he has declared that he has no intention of thinking about what could have been.

"Do I regret leaving Spain? It's pointless to say things like that now," the speedy full-back was quoted as saying by Datasport.

"With hypothetical arguments you don't go anywhere. And Milan aren't the only team having problems in Europe.

"This is football, all we can do is go forward, trying to finish the season in the best possible way. We only have the league now and the least we can do is finish third. I remain confident, we mustn't give up.

"Should we change the system to have more defensive cover? Those decisions aren't up to me."

Italy international Zambrotta and his Milan teammates will attempt to close the gap on their city rivals when they travel to play Sampdoria on Sunday.
