Maldini: I have made my decision
Paolo Maldini insists he will stick by his decision to retire from the game at the end of the current Serie A campaign.
The Rossoneri legend has been a one-club man for his 25-year career and has recently confirmed tha date for his retirement. However, unlike the season before, the former Italian international will stand by his choice this time around.
"Will I change my mind? No. I have already made my decision and it was taken in a serene manner. I will certainly not go back on my decision," Maldini said in an interview.
Milan have been on a roller-coaster ride this season. The Rossoneri are now out of the Coppa Italia and the UEFA Cup, and have had a trying season in the Serie A. Maldini says this is all down to injuries.
"Injuries have struck out fundamental players, and therefore it has been a difficult season for us. We always get injuries. The latest was to [David] Beckham. We hope it's not serious," added the 40-year-old defender.
Maldini was keen to praise Beckham and was happy for the midfielder's extension.
"Beckham has been doing brilliantly even if he had to adapt, which isn't always easy," continued the legend. "He has the right spirit and he is a player who always gives his maximum."
