Maldini: Paolo unlikely to coach

Cesare Maldini insists that Paolo will not go straight into coaching following his retirement at the end of the season.

The Milan defender is set to hang up his boots at the end of the current campaign, drawing a 24-year stellar career with the Rossoneri to a close.

"I don't think Paolo will become a coach once he's done playing," he told Stadio News in an interview. "At this moment nothing has been decided, he still has so many options, even outside of football."

The former Milan boss then touched on the Italian national team who are now coached by Marcello Lippi.

"I think Lippi is looking at all the player's who were involved in the European championships, it does not look like a completely new team. As for [Antonio] Cassano, that is a personal choice of Lippi's and it should be respected."

The elder Maldini also took time to comment on AC Milan and he is adamant that the current team, with a few tweaks, can still contend for the Scudetto.

"AC Milan do not need a renovation to return to winning ways. After so many years, they will miss my son, but I think Thiago Silva will do very well. There are clearly some changes needed, but nothing major."
