AC Milan vs Palermo Preview
Striker Edinson Cavani insists Palermo will not be overawed when they travel to play Serie A giants AC Milan on Sunday.
The Rosanero have only lost one of their past six games, winning all the others apart from a 2-2 draw away at Inter Milan.
They currently sit three points behind Roma who occupy sixth spot and the last Europa League qualifying berth and Cavani knows a win is vital to keep their European dream alive.
"We're hoping to qualify for the Europa League next season," he said. "It's a nice period this for Palermo. We have shown even in difficult moments that we are a real group and that we can play at the level of anyone.
"We'll go to Milan without any fear. Palermo, in their last trip to the San Siro against Inter, in the second-half, proved all their worth.
"This has also happened in other away games and it is for that reason that I and my team-mates are confident for Sunday."
Cavani's stunning form this season has played a major role in Palermo's push for Europe, with the 22-year-old weighing in with 13 goals so far this campaign.
He has emerged as a natural successor to Amauri following the Brazilian's departure for Juventus in the summer and has attracted interest from top clubs but he insists he is not about to follow his former team-mate out the Stadio Renzo Barbera exit.
"I am happy at Palermo and I'm not thinking at all about a transfer," added Cavani. "This is my great European chance and I'm holding this dream close.
"My aims are to increase my goal tally and win something important in this shirt.
"I am very happy for Amauri's nice words about me. I am very happy to be important as he was for the Rosanero fans and I also like it when they say that I can be an example for so many youngsters."
Palermo will have to put thoughts of Moris Carrozzieri's possible ban out of their heads.
It was revealed yesterday that the defender had tested positive for cocaine following his side's victory over Torino at the beginning of the month and he faces a ban of up to two years.
Apart from Carrozzieri, coach Davide Ballardini has a full squad to choose from.
Milan have been in great form of late and have won five of their past six games to move into second spot in Serie A, albeit level on points with Juventus.
However, they are 10 points behind Inter and, with six games left to go, coach Carlo Ancelotti admitted his team are not thinking about the Scudetto.
Milan have been hitting the back of the net for fun lately, putting five past Torino last weekend and notching another five in a midweek friendly victory over a Hungarian League Team XI and Ancelotti is hoping for more of the same tomorrow.
"Now we have to return to focusing on the reality of the championship and thinking of the difficult game that awaits us at the San Siro against Palermo," he said.
"They are a good team, well organised and Milan will have to pay them a lot of attention.
Ancelotti is without Gennaro Gattuso, Marco Borriello, Alessandro Nesta, Kakha Kaladze, Daniele Bonera, Christian Abbiati and Luca Antonini.
