Juventus vs Lecce Preview

Juventus will look to silence their growing list of critics this weekend when they host second-from-bottom Lecce.

Coach Claudio Ranieri and his side have come under heavy fire this week following a disastrous April during which they failed to win any of their four league matches while they were also bundled out of the Coppa Italia by Lazio.

Fans and shareholders of the club have demanded answers for their poor form with protests also being held in Turin.

Despite the unrest around the club, Juve still remain third in the Serie A table and are almost certain to clinch a place in next year's Champions League.

They could yet recover second place in the table when they travel to AC Milan next weekend, however it is such thoughts that injured defender Giorgio Chiellini has warned his team-mates about entertaining.

Chiellini, who expects to return for the match at the San Siro, believes his side must first focus on overcoming Lecce and recover some of their lost reputation with the Bianconeri fans.

"A match like the one against Milan always has a special taste but it is only right that my team-mates concentrate on the match against Lecce because it is very important for us to end this championship well," he said.

"The words of the shareholders were significant and reflected the thoughts of each and every one of us because we want to do well and move up the table.

"We must try and win back second place but what interests us most is ending the season well."

Juve were handed a boost this week when their appeal against a decision to ban their fans from attending Sunday's game was overturned by the High Court of the Italian Olympic Committee (CONI).

Juve's fans had originally been ordered to stay away from the game by the Italian league after they racially abused Inter Milan striker Mario Balotelli during last month's 1-1 draw.

On the pitch they will be without Chiellini while injured quartet Marco Marchionni, Tiago, Hasan Salihamidzic and Mohamed Sissoko.

Despite their absences Juve will still be favourites against a Lecce side they have beaten in each of their past six meetings.

The Salentini also have a poor away record at the moment having lost on each of their previous five away trips and find themselves three points adrift of safety with five games left to play.

They did, however, improve their hopes with a 2-1 win over Catania last weekend, and goalkeeper Francesco Benussi believes they will have to withstand an "angry" Juventus if they are to claim back-to-back wins.

"We know that on Sunday we face a Juventus team that will not only be particularly angry, but also a team who will play at a good level," he said.

"We want to do well in Turin and will have to keep hold our nerve, because it will be important to manage the game from a psychological point of view."
