Roma vs Chievo Preview
Chievo coach Domenico Di Carlo insists last weekend's defeat to Udinese will not affect his team as they face European-chasing Roma.
Chievo coach Domenico Di Carlo admits last weekend's defeat to Udinese was a huge disappointment but insists it will not affect his team heading into their tricky trip to European-chasing Roma.
The Flying Donkeys' Serie A status looks ever more perilous following Udinese's last-minute winner which leaves them just five points above the drop after three of the teams immediately below them all won.
Chievo will be looking to bounce straight back and Di Carlo is confident they can put that match quickly behind them.
"There shouldn't be a psychological factor and there won't be," he said. "We had belief when we were last in the standings so shouldn't we be confident now?
"After all we still have five points more than Bologna and four on Torino.
"Of course the accounts only close on the last day of the season but now we are only thinking of working without looking back.
"The point that we could have earned on Saturday would have been useful but it wouldn't have changed the situation much.
"What have I always said? We have to get 40 points and as it stands now we still need five."
Roma will be smarting after crashing to a 4-1 defeat against Fiorentina last time out and will be eager to get their fans back on side after a difficult month for the Giallorossi.
However, Di Carlo insists his team are a match for anyone.
"Chievo are also angry," he added. "Going there thinking we are already beaten does not enter our heads. Each game is to be played to the max.
"We know that Roma are a team that should be treated with the maximum respect. We will look to be balanced, clinical and to play our football.
"There's nothing that's a foregone conclusion. It depends on situations, on incidents, on how much we believe in ourselves."
Stephen Makinwa, Fabio Moro, Kerlon and Francesco Scardina are all out injured while Antonio Langella and Mario Yepes are both suspended.
Roma are in somewhat of freefall of late having lost three of their past five encounters, shipping in four goals on each occasion to leave them in danger of not making it into Europe next season.
The Giallorossi still occupy sixth spot and the last Europa League qualifying berth but they are now only three points above Cagliari and Palermo, while they are six off a Champions League spot.
Fans have protested at the training ground and skipper Francesco Totti and vice-captain Daniele De Rossi have held crisis talks with Roma president Rosella Sensi.
A faction of their supporters have already announced that the Curva Sud will remain empty for the first 15 minutes of Sunday's game as another sign of their dissatisfaction.
On the pitch Roma will be boosted by the news that Mirko Vucinic could return to action.
"I'm ready, on Sunday I will come back," announced the striker who has been sidelined for over a month.
Jeremy Menez is also likely to return but long-term injury absentee Alberto Aquilani remains sidelined alongside Cicinho, Juan, Vincenzo Montella and Doni, with the Brazilian goalkeeper ruled out for three months with a knee injury.
