Fiorentina vs Torino Preview

Fiorentina play host to Torino on Sunday bidding to maintain their push for a place in next season's Champions League.

La Viola stormed into fourth place last weekend with a stunning 4-1 win over Roma which will have boosted confidence in the Tuscan city no end.

They will be desperate for a win to maintain their one-point advantage over Genoa, but they will also have an added incentive against Torino who dumped them out of the Coppa Italia in December.

And Fiorentina defender Manuel Pasqual has called for the fans to make their voices heard to will them to another stunning result.

"There was a great approach to the game on Saturday," he said. "The stadium was on fire, there was an incredible support from our fans,

"That gave us a great hand in the game.

"We will certainly treat the match against Torino with the same mentality as that against Roma.

"For them a point will mean a lot while for us the only thing useful is maximum points.

"It won't be easy because they are good in keeping it tight at the back."

Fiorentina have done well to maintain their push for fourth spot despite the absence of several key players.

Felipe Melo was suspended for five games - reduced to three - for his part in a post-match brawl with Cagliari defender Diego Lopez, while star striker Adrian Mutu has been out injured for the past month.

Pasqual hopes La Viola can do even better when they return and clinch a place in Europe's premier club competition once again.

He added: "We have had important absentees in this period but the points have arrived the same.

"Felipe will be back against Catania, Adrian is recovering, we hope that they can give us an extra boost for this finish."

Apart from Melo and Mutu, Marco Donadel is also suspended while Mario Alberto Santana is still injured.

Torino still have only the lightest of grips on Serie A safety despite beating relegation rivals Siena last weekend.

They remain only a point above the drop zone after Bologna won, while second-from-bottom Lecce also triumphed to add to their fears.

Rolando Bianchi has scored in his side's last three home games but has not netted on Toro's travels for several months, and the striker would love to fire them to what would be a vital win.

"A victory in Florence would mean a lot both mentally and with regards to the table," he said. "It will be a very difficult game against a great team, and we will have to put on the pitch our utmost concentration to earn the points we need for safety.

"We're playing for Serie A survival and Fiorentina for the Champions League and I'm sure that we will both achieve those things regardless of the result."

Marco Di Loreto is definitely out for Sunday's match, while Elvis Abbruscato, Hernan Paolo Dellafiore and remain doubts, but Andrea Gasbarroni could be fit in time.
