Siena vs Napoli Preview

Napoli will be desperate to end their dismal away run when they visit Siena on Sunday.

The Partenopei travel to Tuscany have last won on the road dating back on October 26, a 1-0 victory at Lazio.

Since then, Napoli have mustered just two points in their last 12 away games.

The Naples club have had to rely on their home form to stay close to the top half of the table.

With five games remaining, Napoli are 12th in the standings, 10 points behind Roma, who hold the last European qualifying spot.

Despite a disappointing season for the Napoli faithful, the team did give their fans some joy at last after beating Serie A leaders Inter Milan 1-0 in the last round.

The win was their first since January 11 and marked the first success under coach Roberto Donadoni.

But Donadoni was still not a happy camper and expects more consistency.

"This is one of the games that makes me angry," he said.

"It's clear that is fantastic to play in front of these fans and against the top team in the standings.

"However, it's easy to be geared up against Inter but we must have this approach in every game.

"My players must understand this fast because only like that can you grow as a team.

"It's not that just because we won this game we have resolved all of our problems.

"We have a lot of work to do, we have to improve a lot."

Relegation-threatened Siena know they need to bring a halt to a miserable run of form.

Defeats to Chievo and Torino have left the Tuscan outfit eight points clear of the relegation zone.

"Our last two defeats have placed us in a difficult position," said Siena midfielder Simone Vergassola.

"Defeats to Chievo and Torino were a big blow for us considering they are direct rivals in our battle to avoid the drop."

Traditionally, 40 points is the magic figure that clubs aim for at the start of the campaign and ahead of tomorrow's encounter, Siena have 37 in the bank as the season enters its final five weeks.

Vergassola knows his team face a challenge against a reinvigorated Napoli.

"We know Napoli will come here eager to get points," he said.

"They played very well against Inter.

"But we need to remain focused from the start and impose our rhythm to make life difficult for them."

Donadoni will be hoping to recover striker German Denis, with forward Ezequiel Lavezzi sidelined for three weeks with a thigh injury.

Denis sustained a muscular problem but could start against Siena.

One consolation for Donadoni is that defender Paolo Cannavaro returns from suspension.

Siena coach Marco Giampaolo welcomes back striker Nicola Amoruso, who served a one-match ban against Torino last weekend.
