Catania vs Fiorentina Preview

Fiorentina travel to Genoa needing to claim against opponents who are just one point behind them in the Serie A standings

La Viola strengthened their bid for Champions League qualification with a narrow victory over relegation-threatened Torino last weekend and know they cannot afford any slip-ups in the final few matches of the season.

They could be Cesare Prandelli's last games in charge with speculation increasing that the Fiorentina coach is set to replace under-pressure Juventus boss Claudio Ranieri.

However, Prandelli claims he will still be at the helm next season when he is convinced La Viola will once again compete with Europe's elite.

"Juventus? I'm happy in Florence, I love the Fiorentina fans, the city loves me and there are no problems," he told Radio Kiss Kiss.

"It is three years now that we have managed to take La Viola into a good position, I hope that also next year this colour will be fashionable.

"In the last few weeks the team have recaptured decisive ideas and that can be seen not only in the results but also on the field.

"It's obvious that each time you go out on the pitch there are some unknown quantities, but we are good both physically and mentally."

Emiliano Bonazzoli injured a metatarsal in training this week which could force him to miss the trip to Sicily along with Adrian Mutu and Mario Alberto Santana but Felipe Melo returns after serving the last game of a three-match suspension for his part in a post-match brawl.

Catania will be eager to get back to winning ways on Sunday after back-to-back defeats, while last weekend's 2-0 defeat to AC Milan also marked their fourth loss in five league fixtures.

Walter Zenga's men are 11 points clear of the drop zone and know that victory would all but erase their relegation fears.

Assistant coach Giuseppe Irrera is confident his side have already done enough to avoid the drop and has urged the players now to do as much as possible to repay the fans' faith in them.

"Milan at the moment are difficult not just for Catania but whichever Serie A team," he said. "Against these opponents you also need a bit of luck.

"We're not yet mathematically safe but I don't think we will have any more problems, but we will try to finish the season in the best way possible looking to give new satisfaction to our fans."

Zenga will be without injured duo Pablo Ledesma and Alessandro Potenza as well as striker Takayuki Morimoto who is suspended.
