Bologna vs Catania Preview
Bologna midfielder Nicola Mingazzini insists his side will go into the season finale against Catania full of confidence.
Last weekend's goalless result at Chievo coupled with Torino's 3-2 defeat at Genoa allowed the Rossoblu to leapfrog Toro in the standings.
Bologna are level on 34 points with 18th-placed Torino but hold the last safety position thanks to their better head-to-head record over the Granata outfit.
The Rossoblu know that a win over Catania will definitely secure their Serie A status, while any other result would be good enough provided Torino can only match their outcome.
"It is right to be confident," said Mingazzini. "Our destiny is in our hands.
"We were lucky that Torino lost last weekend against Genoa but we are well aware that all our efforts will be to no avail if we lose on Sunday.
"We know Torino face a tough task at Roma but we are only focused on our game against Catania.
"We are determined to play a good game and get the result we need."
Catania go into the game having already secured top flight football for next season after collecting 43 points in 37 games.
The islanders returned to the winning ways after four consecutive defeats by beating Napoli 3-1 in the previous round.
With essentially nothing left to play for, Mingazzini believes the Sicilian outfit may arrive at the Renato dall' Ara stadium in a more relaxed mood.
"Catania will come here to celebrate their season and even though I expect them to play well, I wouldn't expect them to treat it like a do-or-die game," he said.
Mingazzini believes the fans' support will be crucial for their Serie A survival.
The club have already assured a 23,500 attendance but Mingazzini expects the stadium to be sold out.
"I am certain it will be packed on Sunday," he said. "We have great supporters, who are always behind the team in the good times and in the bad times.
"We now need a last big effort from everyone."
Bologna coach Giuseppe Papadopulo will go into the game without injured defensive trio Vangelis Moras, Miguel Angel Britos and Claudio Terzi, while his Catania counterpart Walter Zenga has doubts over Potenza and Ledesma.
Neither have been in full training this week.
However, Zenga welcomes back defender Cristian Silvestri as his side look to end their season on a high.
Many tipped Catania for relegation after a disappointing start to the campaign, but Zenga steered his side to safety with seven rounds remaining.
Zenga, who announced last week he will leave the club this summer, is satisfied with his team's achievement.
"No-one could have predicted that Catania would have the luxury of securing its top-flight status two months prior to the end of the season because that has never happened before," he said.
Bologna striker Marco Di Vaio will have an added reason to score on Sunday as he attempts to finish as Serie A's top scorer.
Di Vaio has netted 23 league goals and currently leads the scoring charts alongside Inter's Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
