Nedved ready to call it quits
Juventus midfielder Pavel Nedved is ready to write a new chapter in his life after retiring from football.
The dynamic Czech midfielder hang up his boots following Sunday's 2-0 win over Lazio.
Nedved, 36, played professional football for 19 years and he reflected on his time in the game after helping Juve secure second place in the league.
"I think I've done enough," Nedved said.
"Today I have stopped running. I want to be close to my family.
"It's a very difficult day but it is also a beautiful one because I have felt the affection of everyone.
"I want to thank my team-mates and the fans because they have always been close to me."
Nedved began his career in his native Czech Republic but he made his name in Italy.
He moved to Serie A in 1996 from Sparta Prague and spent five seasons at Lazio, where he won the Serie A title, the Coppa Italia and a European Cup Winners' Cup.
He then replaced Zinedine Zidane at Juventus in 2001 in a transfer deal worth 41million euros.
At Juve, Nedved's career took off.
He was a vital cog in the Juve teams that captured league titles (2002, 2003) and his performances for the Turin giants earned him the Ballon d'Or as well as the award for best Serie A footballer in 2003.
Two of the league crowns Nedved won with Juve were taken away, however, after the club were found guilty of match-fixing.
Despite Juventus being relegated to the second division as punishment, Nedved remained with the club and helped them win promotion back to the top flight the following season.
Although Juventus did not add any silverware to their trophy cabinet in the past two years, Nedved felt the time was right to stop playing.
"I can retire with calmness because I know we have achieved great things," he added.
