Milan are looking to Real Madrid midfielder Fernando Gago as a potential replacement for Andrea Pirlo if he leaves the Rossonieri this summer.
Despite claiming he is happy at San Siro, Pirlo has also claimed he is interested in moving to another club, and while Chelsea are favourites to gain his signature, Real Madrid may also make a swoop.
Silvio Berlusconi recently fueled speculation, as he revealed the club may be forced to sell the Italian international due to financial constraints.
"I didn't want him to leave, but then they showed me the budget," said Berlusconi.
The Italian media have quickly begun to rumour that Gago, who had a good season with Real, is a possible replacement if Pirlo does exit the club.
‘El Pintita' is an Argentine international and has been likened to Fernando Redondo, another Argentine who played for AC Milan.
While Los Blancos would like to keep him in Madrid, they may well sell him in order to continue the spree of Galacticos purchases that started with Milan's Kaka.
The Italian media speculate that the right offer, in the region of £12m, would be enough to lure the Argentine away from the Bernabeu, especially if Andrea Pirlo was to head the other way.
The former Boca Juniors star could also be excited by such a move, as it would guarantee more first-team football, and he is also an Italian passport holder as his mother is Italian.
