Silvio Berlusconi: Trust us
AC Milan owner Silvio Berlusconi has reassured worried fans that his squad will be competitive on all fronts next season.
The Rossoneri begin pre-season training today with new coach Leonardo as the only addition to the team.
"From a technical point of view, no-one in Italy has such a strong team as ours," said Berlusconi to Gazzetta dello Sport.
"We have great champions like (Alexandre) Pato, Ronaldinho and (Andrea) Pirlo and many promising youngsters.
"The true Milan fans have good sense and they must trust us because we have given them marvellous campaigns in the past."
The departure of Kaka to the Bernabeu stadium and of long-time coach Carlo Ancelotti to Chelsea has been a blow to the Milan faithful.
Milan fans hoped the club would invest part of the 67million euros pocketed from Kaka's sale to Real Madrid on strengthening the squad.
However, Milan's moves in the transfer market have so far proved fruitless.
The Rossoneri have failed to lure top summer target Wolfsburg striker Edin Dzeko to the San Siro while FC Porto defender Aly Cissokho's move to AC Milan fell through at the last minute due to a medical.
Berlusconi insists Milan will only make a signing if it makes financial sense and not follow Real Madrid's recent spending spree.
"If in the transfer market a door opens, then someone may arrive, otherwise, we are good as we are," he said. "There's no need to buy at any cost.
"I think like (UEFA president Michel) Platini that football should return to the normalcy of life.
"In any case, for us (the Real Madrid transfer market) has been good because we got 67million euros so I cannot criticise them too much."
