New start for Del Niri and Cassano

New start for Del Niri and Cassano

Gigi Del Neri and Antonio Cassano have never seen eye-to-eye, but the Ex-Roma boss says things are much better at Sampdoria.

58-year-old Del Neri spent just one year in charge of Roma and struggled to control the short-tempered Cassano, leading to a number of highly public rows.

However, Del Neri believes their relationship has significantly improved since being reunited at Sampdoria,

"Cassano has good and bad points, like everyone, including me,"

"Someone can have a different personality, but tolerance must always be present. In my career I have always given respect to others before expecting it back."

Although this change of heart will be encouraging to Sampdoria's fans, Del Neri has not entirely ruled clashing with Cassano again.

"There are rules in football and one can break through them, but it depends on the degree. It's quite simple. If someone goes over the top, I'll kick him out. But I doubt anyone will do that here."

Del Neri and Cassano were both at Roma during the 2004/2005 season and had a number of disagreements both on and off the pitch, leading to the player apologizing in his autobiography.

The two were reunited after Del Neri was appointed as Sampdoria's manager in June.

He insists that any previous issues between the two is now water under the bridge, and is positive about the coming season.

"We get along famously now, I certainly don't want to limit his creativity on the field."

"To get us back in shape we need to have concentration, quality, understanding. It will be a long process, but we'll get there."
