Vieira ready to stay and fight
Patrick Vieira has vowed to stay and fight for his place at Inter Milan this season.
The 33-year-old France captain has been linked with a move away from the San Siro this summer with former club Arsenal, their arch rivals Tottenham, and French sides Lyon and Paris St Germain among the reported interested parties.
Vieira, who failed to hold down a regular place as the Nerazzurri secured a fourth consecutive Scudetto last term, is keen to show his worth this season ahead of next summer's World Cup finals in South Africa.
But he appears ready to stay in Milan and battle for his first-team spot, despite having been given no assurances by coach Jose Mourinho.
"I resumed training without the slightest concern," the midfielder told L'Equipe.
"The friendly matches have gone well. I played much more than I thought.
"Now it's up to me to play as often as possible because I have received no guarantees to that effect."
Vieira revealed tentative talks with Lyon had taken place but claimed the French club stalled on a deal.
"I had once or twice Bernard Lacombe (president Jean-Michel Aulas' advisor) on the phone, in early summer. It stopped there. There was no response," he said.
"This is not a financial problem. Lyon may have been afraid to sign me."
