Melo: Me against Maradona

Melo: Me against Maradona

Juventus' new recruit, Felipe Melo, speaks about life in Turin and his dream of becoming a Juve idol.

Melo joined the Turin giants from Fiorentina after a great season last time out.

He played so well that Dunga called him up for the Confederations Cup where he was given a starting berth.

"I've managed to fight for my space," he said to O Dia, "but there are others who have the same objective as me. That said, I think I can be a part of the group that will go the World Cup."

"Argentina-Brazil won't be a war, but it will certainly be a great match," he continued.

"Motivation is very strong for both teams. [Diego] Maradona complimented me, and I thank him: he was a genius with the ball at his feet. Me against Maradona on the pitch? It would have been a great duel, but we're in a different time now..."

As for his first few months as a Juve player, the Brazilian midfielder insist he loves the pressure playing for a club challenging for the Serie A title.

"In Turin I'm still staying at a hotel with my family, trying to find the right home. We've started the season well and I like the team, I feel comfortable.

"Winning with Juve and become an idol to the fans would be a dream come true. A club of this calibre must always fight for the title independently of the reinforcements.

It's logic that there's pressure but we are prepared for that. Juve are favourites along with Milan, Inter and Roma."

Melo played an integral part alongside compatriot, Diego, to give Juventus a 3-1 win over AS Roma at the weekend.
