Injury blow for Del Piero

Juventus captain Alessandro Del Piero will be out for at least a month with a thigh injury.

The Italian striker sustained the injury during training this morning and tests have confirmed the 34-year-old suffered a muscle strain in his left thigh.

"During this morning's training session, Del Piero has suffered an acute pain in his left thigh," read a statement on the club's official website, www.juventus.it.

"The player underwent tests immediately and they showed muscular strain damage. He is expected to be sidelined for 30 to 40 days."

Del Piero is set to miss at least five Serie A games and the two Champions League encounters against Maccabi Haifa.

Portuguese midfielder Tiago will also be sidelined for 20 days after sustaining a thigh injury during Wednesday's goalless draw with Bayern Munich.
