Del Neri: Sampdoria have earned it
Sampdoria coach Gigi Del Neri has refuted suggestions that his team has depended on luck to lead the Serie A table.
The 59-year-old Italian, who rose to prominence after leading Chievo to the top flight, wants to prove his critics wrong by continuing Sampdoria's winning run.
The Blucerchiati beat Inter last weekend to became the sole leaders on 15 points. They had started the season with a bang after winning the opening four rounds for the first time in their history.
"To tell the truth, there was a time when some said we were just lucky. After six games perhaps we have earned a bit more credibility," said the coach.
"I believe that luck, along with tactical intelligence, is a crucial element in a successful side. We're fighting fit and I think can hold up to the end, considering how we prepared our fitness work pre-season."
This weekend, Sampdoria will host Parma to Marassi while Juventus take on Palermo and Inter host Udinese.
"We do not feel pressure. The squad and I spent a lovely week feeling proud that we are the leaders, but also aware of our potential. We keep working hard, but without worrying.
"It's not our job to win the Scudetto and none of us walked around the city with our chests puffed out. We are enjoying this moment, yes, but with our feet firmly on the ground."
