Cagliari vs Chievo Preview

Cagliari coach Massimiliano Allegri is optimistic his side will end their winless home run when Chievo visit on Sunday.

Not since May when they beat Inter Milan 2-1 have Cagliari come out triumphant on home soil.

After home defeats against Siena and Inter this term, Cagliari fans are hoping their team can deliver this weekend.

There is optimism that things have taken a turn for the better after consecutive triumphs at Bari and Parma.

Their 2-0 win at Parma in the last round lifted the Rossoblu to 12th in the standings.

Allegri's aim now is for his side to show the same determination they have displayed on their travels when playing in front of their home fans.

"It's difficult to get wins in Serie A but to get two victories on the road is something positive," said Allegri.

"Now we have to focus on the game against Chievo. It could be a turning point for us as we have yet to win at home this campaign.

"I hope my players can keep up the good work and give our fans some joy on Sunday."

Since claiming just one point in their opening four games, Cagliari have shown a vast improvement in every department.

The Rossoblu have scored three goals and not conceded any in their last 180 minutes of Serie A football.

Cagliari know they will have to keep a close eye on Chievo striker Sergio Pellissier, who has struck four goals this season for the Flying Donkeys.

"We must control him from the first minute to the last second of the game," said Cagliari striker Alessandro Matri. "He is fast, agile and can do a lot of damage when given space.

"But we cannot underestimate any of Chievo's players. We must go into the game fully focused."

The good news for Allegri is that captain Diego Lopez has recovered from injury and will lead his team out tomorrow.

Lopez's return is a blessing for Allegri with defender Davide Astori serving a one-match ban this weekend.

Chievo travel to Cagliari in buoyant mood after last weekend's 1-1 draw against Atalanta extended the Gialloblu's unbeaten run to four games.

The Flying Donkeys have eight points on the board so far and lie eighth in the standings after six games.

"The important thing is that we moved up in the standings by taking a point against Atalanta," said Chievo coach Domenico Di Carlo. "The team is improving game by game.

"We know our opponents will be determined to get a victory at home and will have the support of their fans.

"But I am confident we can do well at Cagliari."

Chievo will play with in-form Pellissier alongside Erjon Bogdani in attack.

Di Carlo will have all his players available tomorrow with the exception of injured midfielder Luca Rigoni.
