Udinese 1-3 Atalanta

Udinese 1-3 Atalanta

Antonio Conte celebrated his first win as coach of Atalanta with two eye-catching goals earning them victory at Udinese.

Simone Tiribocchi put the Nerazzurri ahead in the fourth minute, but Francesco Lodi brought the home side level shortly after.

Udinese were the brighter team, but without Italy international Antonio Di Natale, who was surprisingly left out of the starting XI, they were unable to find the back of the net again, and they were punished by two goals worthy of winning any game.

Jaime Valdes scored the first in the 70th minute before Diego De Ascentis sealed the win three minutes later.

Udinese coach Pasquale Marino left Serie A's top goalscorer Di Natale on the sidelines with Lodi making his first start of the season.

For Atalanta, De Ascentis made a comeback after being marginalised by Conte and his predecessor Angelo Gregucci.

The visitors took the lead thanks to Tiribocchi, who broke into the penalty area, using his strength to hold off a Udinese defender before striking low across Samir Handanovic and into the far corner.

Their lead lasted just four minutes, though, before a fine team goal brought Udinese level.

A succession of quick passes carved a way through the Atalanta defence with Lodi playing a neat one-two with Alexis Sanchez to break into the right-hand side of the penalty area, where he was able to use his favoured left foot to curl a shot past Andrea Consigli into the far corner.

Udinese raised their game and began to grow in confidence with their quick passing and skilful build-up play causing their Bergamese opponents problems.

Gokhan Inler tested Consigli from 30 yards with a dipping shot which the Atalanta goalkeeper tipped over the crossbar.

Atalanta also had their chances, mainly on the break, with Simone Padoin's shot drifting agonisingly across the face of goal with Tiribocchi unable to reach it.

Cristiano Doni shot over the crossbar from a dangerous position 15 yards out before he tried an acrobatic effort which was easy for Handanovic as Atalanta looked a threat with each of their rare attacks.

At the other end, Gaetano D'Agostino's free-kick was pushed wide by an alert Consigli early in the second half.

But two stunning strikes in the space of three minutes decided the game in Atalanta's favour.

Valdes scored the first, skipping past a half-hearted challenge from D'Agostino before unleashing an unstoppable shot into the top left-hand corner from fully 25 yards out.

De Ascentis then followed suit, beating Handanovic into the opposite top corner from the same distance after receiving an intelligent pass from Doni.

Udinese tried to respond and Pepe hit the woodwork from 23 yards out with substitute Di Natale adjudged to be offside as he tried to put away the rebound.
