Catania vs Chievo Preview
Chievo are still seething over their late collapse against AC Milan heading into the clash at Catania.
The Rossoneri scored twice in the last nine minutes of Sunday's game to send the Verona club crashing to a 2-1 defeat.
"Having started well and taken the lead, we had opportunities to extend our advantage but we failed to make them," said a disappointed Chievo coach Domenico Di Carlo.
"When AC Milan equalised, we still had a chance to regain the lead but we wasted several good chances.
"It's a pity that we gave away two goals in the final minutes.
"My players need to learn that they need keep their concentration from start to finish."
It was the Flying Donkeys' second straight defeat following a 2-1 loss to Bari and left them 11th in the standings after nine games.
"We are not a team that intends to fight for a European place," said Di Carlo.
"Our aim is to avoid the drop this season and the sooner we do it the better.
"But we also need to be aware of our limits, knowing ones limits can turn to be a great strength."
Chievo are five points clear of the relegation zone and will fancy their chances in Sicily having collected seven of a possible nine points in their last three games on the road.
But the visitors will have to overcome the absence of experienced duo Giampiero Pinzi and Mario Yepes, who both serve one-match bans on Wednesday.
Catania, meanwhile, go into the match at the Angelo Massimino stadium looking to bounce back from Saturday's 2-1 defeat at Inter Milan.
The loss ended the Sicilian outfit's five-match unbeaten run and left them just one point clear of the bottom three.
"We had to play a perfect game against Inter," said Catania coach Gianluca Atzori. "We did not do that.
"We didn't play well in the opening half and we showed fear.
"When you let a team like Inter control the first 45 minutes and allow them to take a 2-0 lead, it just becomes extremely difficult to turn around the result."
Atzori is optimistic his side can claim their second win of the campaign on Wednesday, provided they show the same determination they displayed in the second half against Inter.
"We must pick up where we left off against Inter," said Atzori. "The team showed a lot of fighting spirit after the restart against the Serie A leaders.
"I believe if my players show that same will, there is no reason why we cannot come out triumphant against Chievo."
The Islanders have collected five of their seven points in Sicily and know that anything but a win could see them drop into the relegation zone.
Catania's attacking line will be put to the test by a Chievo side that have only given away two goals in their four outings so far.
The hosts will be without injured trio Pablo Barrientos, Jorge Martinez and Francesco Sciacca.
