Genoa vs Fiorentina Preview
Fiorentina coach Cesare Prandelli knows his side face a tough match when they travel to Genoa in Serie A.
The Viola are fifth in the table, five places above their hosts although only two points separate the teams, and both sides will be looking to improve on their efforts at the weekend where they both lost to late goals.
Fiorentina went down 1-0 at home to Napoli, who had not even taken a point away from home before the game, with Christian Maggio scoring the only goal with just two minutes left.
Genoa found themselves in a similar position with Andrea Lazuli pouncing three minutes from time for Cagliari with manager Gian Piero Gasperini's misery compounded when Emiliano Moretti was sent off.
Both sides will be aiming to return to winning ways at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris with the hosts desperate to avoid the fate of their last home game when they were hammered 5-0 by Jose Mourinho's table-topping Inter Milan.
Prandelli has no illusions Genoa will present tough opposition and www.violachanneltv: "It will be a difficult game.
"They are having problems but they remain a competitive team despite injuries and suspensions.
"We know how hard it is. Again, it will be tough."
Prandelli also called on his side to be prepared to give their all physically.
"We must get in the trenches with our helmets on and our desire to progress," he continued.
"This team has values, has its pride.
"We need the right kind of concentration and the rest will follow.
"Our goal tomorrow will be to search for a performance. It is tough to do, especially in midweek, but an organised team must also be able to try.
"Every ball, every game will be important. Fielding our values, but in certain stages of the game, calls for increased attention and spirit of cooperation to my players. "
Fiorentina are in the middle of a demanding period which sees them return to the Champions League next week when they host Debrecen.
The Florence team are well placed in second in Group E behind Lyon and will be looking for their second consecutive win against the Hungarian side to put further pressure on Liverpool in third.
However, such a run has taken its toll with Martin Jorgensen and Mario Alberto Santana both in doubt.
Opposite number Gasperini was desperately disappointed following his side's defeat to Cagliari and was incensed by a number of refereeing decisions.
However, it means Genoa have now suffered three consecutive defeats including a 3-0 reverse against Lille in the Europa League and Gasperini will be desperate to halt his side's slide after a good start to the season.
