Bologna 2-1 Siena

Bologna 2-1 Siena

Bologna moved out of Serie A's bottom three as they inflicted Siena's seventh defeat of the campaign.

Martins Adailton struck a first-half opener and Pablo Daniel Osvaldo added a second for 17th-placed Bologna to claim their second win of the campaign at the Renato Dall'ara stadium.

Substitute Emanuele Calaio was on target after 87 minutes for the visitors, but it proved mere consolation.

Marco Giampaolo's side have picked up just two points from eight games and they have now lost the last three matches.

It has been almost two months since they last tasted success, a 3-1 win at Cagliari.

It was a strong recovery for Bologna, who bounced back from last weekend's 4-1 humiliation at Sampdoria.

Osvaldo had the opening effort of the match after six minutes, firing narrowly wide after a shot from the edge of the area.

Siena attempted to reply after 15 minutes, a low cross causing confusion in the hosts' defence.

The ball fell for Mato Jajalo, whose shot from close range was blocked by Bologna goalkeeper Emiliano Viviano. It only went as far as Abdelkader Ghezzal, who somehow failed to find the target, shooting high over the bar.

Siena were immediately punished as Bologna took the lead at the other end.

A quickly taken free-kick freed Adailton, who received the ball outside the area before drifting left and firing a shot across goal into the top corner.

Massimo Maccarone hit the outside of the post with a long-range free-kick from Viviano after 26 minutes before the Bologna goalkeeper was in action again.

Paul Codrea shot and Viviano parried to Siena defender Daniele Ficagna, who missed the target under pressure from Bologna defender Daniele Portanova.

Ficagna was in action in defence early in the second period, blocking Osvaldo's effort.

Siena then conceded a second as Osvaldo netted after 59 minutes, converting Salvatore Lanna's cross with a free header.

Maccarone had an opportunity to reply almost immediately, but Viviano made a strong save to turn the ball round for a corner.

Adailton had a free-kick at the other end, which swerved around the wall and hit the crossbar before being cleared to safety.

Siena were finally rewarded for their attacking endeavours, pulling a goal back after 87 minutes.

Maccarone crossed for Calaio to head in past Viviano, but despite being the better team for much of the contest, Siena could not find a leveller.
