Leonardo happy despite Milan shock
AC Milan boss Leonardo has highlighted the positives despite his side throwing away a 2-0 lead to share the spoils with Napoli on Wednesday.
The Rossoneri appeared to be cruising to victory when goals from Filipo Inzaghi and Alexandre Pato put the 2-0 up inside the first five minutes - and Ignazio Abate's dismissal four minutes from time appeared to be academic.
But Luca Cigarini netted a stunning volley in the last minute and fellow substitute German Denis headed his side level three minutes into stoppage time.
"The result is disappointing and leaves us with a bitter taste in our mouths," Leonardo explained.
"We had such a strong start and scored two goals in the first six minutes. In a way the goals were too early, as we knew that controlling the match for 85 minutes was going to be tricky.
"The finale was just incredible. Abate's red card is the only reason I can think of as to why we ended up drawing this game with Napoli.
"With hindsight I could've avoided it by substituting him with Massimo Oddo, as I knew Abate was already on a yellow card.
"Nonetheless, the team is aware it played a great game and this result will not hit our confidence. The draw is a bit disappointing, but the performance remains positive."
"We were in no way arrogant or superficial. There are situations that need to be read properly. The team gave its all."
Milan's night was further tarnished when, after being substituted, prized asset Ronaldinho stormed off and aimed a volley of abuse at his coach.
Depsite the verbal jousting, Leonardo was adamant that he and his Brazilian import are on the best of terms.
"I have an excellent rapport with him. We have already talked it over, he is fine and it's positive that he is so eager to stay on the field."
