Del Neri: Juve were too strong for us

Sampdoria coach Gigi Del Neri has admitted that his side simply could not match Juventus following their heavy defeat on Wednesday.

On a night when Juve were unstoppable, a brace from Amauri as well as strikes from Giorgio Chiellini, Mauro Camoranesi and David Trezeguet ensured a one-sided scoreline at the Stadio Grande Torino.

Giampaolo Pazzini scored Samp's consolation with the Blucherchiati slipping to third, one point behind Juve and two shy of leaders Inter Milan, who play Palermo on Thursday.

"It is a very heavy defeat, but it doesn't change anything for us," insisted Del Neri.

"This match was important, but Juventus were too strong and played a perfect game. It's a shame, obviously, but I saw the Bianconeri really hit their stride.

"We had a few chances in the first half and conceded a goal from a set play that was easily avoidable.

"This game must teach us that we need to play in a relaxed manner, taking it one day at a time. We must always fight and learn that to stay on top of the table a team requires a certain level of quality.

"I believe this also represents an important experience, as it means understanding what the atmosphere of a top of the table clash is like."
