Serie A - Roma v Reggina

Spalletti: No grudges against Roma

Luciano Spalletti has revealed that he does not bear any grudge against former employers Roma.

The 50-year-old stepped down from the role he had occupied for four years following a dismal start to the season which saw his side lose to both Genoa and Juventus - leaving them rock bottom of Serie A.

Former Juventus boss Claudio Ranieri has since replaced him in the Italian capital, but despite his shock exit, Spalletti is adamant that he wishes Roma all the very best for the future.

"In other countries there is a different civility. The lads were disappointed when I resigned. We left each other as friends. I think I gave everything to Roma and I also received it in return," he said.

"This is the real reason why I was able to make myself express the true potential of this team. I know Ranieri, Montali and Conti. If you let them work then you will understand that they are good people and great professionals.

"I went forward after the meeting at Villa Pacelli in June because I liked Rome and Roma a lot. But then seeing that I was no longer able to express all of the potential I decided to leave."

Since leaving Roma, Spalletti has been linked with several high profile clubs, but has admitted that one day he would love to coach the Italian national team.

"La Nazionale is the dream of any trainer. I feel ready to do it. I speak about a 'foreign' national team but also the Italian one. It's an opening that I would allow," Spalletti explained.

"Although, if I had to make a prediction I would say my future was with a team from abroad."
