Biondini gets double reward
Davide Biondini is not only celebrating his first Italy call-up but he will also be getting a new contract with Cagliari.
Italy coach Marcello Lippi has handed the midfielder a chance to play for Italy in the friendlies against Holland and Sweden.
The Italians have already qualified for the 2010 World Cup finals in South Africa.
“I am happy to be here and will try to do well, living this emotional experience to the full,” said Biondini according to football-italia.net.
“It’s my first call and so everything is new. There are so many things to discover, it’s a whole new world to me and a fascinating one at that.”
Coach Massimiliano Allegri was the one who broke the news to his player.
“I believed him, even though with the Coach there was the risk it was a joke! It’s true I forgot to bring my boots with me. I knew I was going to be so excited that I was bound to forget something.
“You can tell this is a splendid squad of players and I am happy to be joining them. I take this call-up as a reward for everything I’m doing at Cagliari in recent months.”
The club is also set to thank Biondini by extending his contract until June 30 2014.
