Amauri's World Cup dreams dashed

Amauri's World Cup dreams dashed

Amauri is set to miss out on appearing in the World Cup with Italy as his citizen application will only be approved next March.

The Juventus striker who was born in Argentina has been seeking to become an Italian citizen through his wife who has already obtained citizenship in March.

But Italian laws state that Amauri have to wait one year after before he can gain citizenship through marriage.

According to football-italia.net, this could mean the end of Amauri's World Cup dreams as Italy's final warm-up game before the World Cup finals is two days after his citizenship is approved.

It means Marcello Lippi would have to add the Juventus striker to his World Cup squad without playing a single game first.

This suggests 29-year-old Amauri's dream of representing Italy in this tournament is all but over.
