The club has been rooted at the bottom of the league with a miserable six points from 13 games. They are currently in run to be the cellar dwellers for this season and are seeking to improve with the aid of their new manager.

Baroni's employment as the temporary head had proved to be on little relief as the Bianconeri crashed at home to Atlanta by a two goal margin. Initially the had been speculation that Mario Beretta might be returning to the club; however the length of his contract was a issue for Siena.

The club has now turned to Malesani, whose last source of employment was with Empoli in 2007-08. Tuttomercatoweb has reported that the gaffer has signed a contract till the end of the current season with an option for a further year.
