Roma turn attention to Zigic
Roma's search for a target man has taken them to Valencia where Serbia international Nikola Zigic is apparently available.
The Giallorossi have been looking for someone to take the weight off Francesco Totti's shoulders at the sharp end of the attack, but initial interest in Tottenham Hotspur striker Roman Pavlyuchenko has collapsed as the player prefers a return to Russia.
Another long-term target, Luca Toni, also seems unlikely to come back to the peninsula after it emerged yesterday that Bayern Munich have tied up a deal to sell him to Valencia.
According to Il Corriere dello Sport, while Roma are frustrated at not being able to sign Toni, his possible arrival at the Mestalla means Valencia will try and sell Zigic, who recently returned from a successful loan spell at Racing Santander.
Zigic expressed his desire to go off in search of pastures new earlier this month, as he has little chance of displacing David Villa at the heart of Valencia's attack.
"I want to leave because I want to play. I am ready to leave on the condition that I find a better team than Valencia," he said.
A meeting has already apparently taken place between Zigic, his agent and Roma, who would like to take the 29-year-old on loan until the end of the season with a view to paying between £6m and £7m in the summer.
