Chievo vs Palermo Preview
Palermo boss Delio Rossi hopes his team can end a good week on a high note when they travel to Verona to meet Chievo.
The former Lazio coach replaced Walter Zenga earlier this week and enjoyed a winning start to his reign by guiding the Rossaneri to a 4-1 victory of Serie B outfit Reggina on Thursday.
The result sent Palermo through to he last 16 of the Coppa Italia.
"The players deserve this," said Rossi. "I have only been training the team for three days and I was curious to see how the team would respond.
"I am very pleased with the outcome but I know there is still a lot of work to do."
Rossi will be hoping his team can take that winning formula into Serie A.
Zenga was sacked following last weekend's 1-1 tie to Catania, which saw Palermo drop to 12th in the table.
The result extended the Sicilian side's winless run in the league to four games, with their last triumph coming on October 25.
Rossi faces a tough task but believes he has what it takes to succeed at Palermo.
"I have inherited an honest team with good players," said Rossi.
"I will try to improve the mentality of the club and try to resolve the problems that the team has had."
Palermo have only managed to hit the net twice in their last three league games, while they have conceded eight goals in their last two outings.
The Rossaneri players have welcomed Rossi with open arms.
Palermo striker Fabrizio Miccoli believes the coaching change has had a positive impact on the team.
"Rossi told us to play as we know how and get a win against Reggina," said Miccoli.
"He has made a good impression on me and I am sure we will do well with him.
"We are all very happy with the success against Reggina, which we needed in the changing room to give us a morale boost.
"We know that we can give much more than we have done and we hope to win on Sunday."
Opponents Chievo go into the encounter hoping to bounce back their third straight loss and record their second win at home this season.
The Flying Donkeys go into the match at the Marc'Antonio Bentegodi stadium on the back of a 2-1 loss at Sampdoria that saw them fall to 13th in the standings, three points clear of the drop zone.
Chievo coach Domenico Di Carlo will have to make changes to his starting XI with defender Mario Yepes and midfielder Luciano both serving one-match ban.
Moreover, defenders Fabio Moro and Nicholas Frey are still sidelined through injury.
The only consolation for Di Carlo is that striker Erjon Bogdani has recovered from a muscle injury and will lead Chievo's attack alongside Sergio Pellissier.
The visitors have midfielder Giovanni Tedesco, midfielder Simone Kjaer and striker Davide Succi back after injury but will be without suspended midfielder Javier Pastore.
