Del Neri: Genoa deserved it
Sampdoria coach Luigi Del Neri felt his team were unlucky over two penalty awards but felt Genoa deserved their derby win.
Sampdoria went down 3-0 in the derby game against Genoa last night - and Del Negri felt that his side's cause was not helped by the two penalties that were awarded against them.
"Two unusual penalties were awarded, especially for a derby, but Genoa played with a lot of intensity and we weren't able to contrast them," he said to Sky.
"We are very young, there are lads who don't yet know what it means to play in Serie A. This will be a useful defeat for the future.
"They did well to attack the spaces, then after the penalty they were able to play their game, and we never managed to produce the right effort to turn the match around. The penalties? On the first I have some doubts as [Giuseppe] Sculli seemed to handle the ball, but again, Genoa deserved the victory.
"Were Genoa more aggressive? It's always been that way in the last few years. There were some fouls which could have been punished differently, but let's give credit to our opponents, because we made mistakes. I'm sorry for the fans, we hope to give them some satisfactions in the remainder of the season."
