Gattuso offered contract extension

Gattuso offered contract extension

AC Milan have offered Gennaro Gattuso a contract extension but the Italy international has yet to respond, according to Adriano Galliani.

Gattuso admitted last month he was considering a move away from Milan having seen his playing time decrease since coach Leonardo replaced Carlo Ancelotti in the summer.

"Milan's consideration for Gattuso is such that the club has a contract extension ready for him," Galliani told Gazzetta dello Sport.

"The offer would allow him to end his career with us. He has not responded yet to our offer but we will meet again and I hope he will accept."

The 31-year-old is a reported target of Manchester City and his current deal with the Rossoneri ends in June 2011.

Gattuso, who is currently sidelined with a muscular injury, has been with Milan since 1999 and was a crucial member of the Italy squad which won the 2006 World Cup.

The combative midfielder has made seven league appearances this season and is hoping to make Marcello Lippi's World Cup squad.
