De Rossi extends stay, hails Totti

Daniele De Rossi has confirmed he is in talks with Roma with regards to extending his contract and also hailed Francesco Totti's decision to stay on.

"I have already spoken with the club. There shouldn't be any problems," De Rossi said, according to football-italia.net, when asked about his future at Roma.

The 26-year-old has been recently linked with a move to Chelsea or Real Madrid.

When asked about Totti's new contract, which ends in 2014, he said: "It hasn't surprised me that Totti signed. The real surprise would have been if he hadn't.

"He is the most important player in Roma's history. Strange arguments are always raised. There are too many inexplicable doubts about him.

"He is the player who has scored the most goals in the last 10 years. He has plodded along for this team in difficult moments in which others would have left.

"You shouldn't look at the figures. All the Roma fans should be happy with the contract renewal. I ask myself if they will find a stronger player than him in the next 30 years," De Rossi concluded.
