Sampdoria's Pazzini staying put

Sampdoria's Pazzini staying put

Sampdoria have insisted striker Giampaolo Pazzini will be going nowhere during the January transfer window.

The 25-year-old Italy international, who moved to the Blucerchiati from Fiorentina in January last year, is reportedly a target for a number of clubs, including Premier League side Chelsea.

However, sporting director Giuseppe Marotta says that although there is interest, Pazzini will be staying at Stadio Luigi Ferraris.

"We will not give Pazzini now - 99 per cent he will not go away," he said.

"I have already met the shareholders and there is no problem.

"Chelsea? There is an interest but a deal is something very different.

"If Pazzini can leave in June? There is so much time between now and June, it is still too early to talk about it."

Pazzini has been in fine form for the Genoa outfit so far this season, and Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti is thought to be an admirer of the striker.

Manchester City are also rumoured to be interested in him, although Samp insist they do not want to sell.

Manager Luigi Del Neri does not want the striker to leave in January, although he admits a deal could be done in June.

He said: "Every coach wants to keep his best players.

"It depends by club and I think that the idea is to keep Pazzini until June, when we'll evaluate if there is the possibility of sending him to a top club."
