Juventus set for Buffon boost

Turin giants Juventus are set to receive a boost after goalkeeper Gigi Buffon declared himself ready for match action.

He had to undergo knee surgery on December 12 while Alex Manninger deputised for the Italy international. The 31-year-old is the third Juventus player this season to have his meniscus repaired.

"After a month out I am ready to re-enter. All of the post-operation phases have gone in the best way possible," Buffon said on his official website.

"In this period I have never had any problems and I have been able to work at my best to recover. Therefore, I count on being back between the sticks in Verona this weekend.

"We need continuity after last night's success with Napoli," the World Cup winner concluded.

Buffon's absence has also coincided with Juventus' poor form in Serie A.

Juventus are third in Serie A - 12 points behind league leaders Inter. A 3-0 defeat at home to Milan on Sunday raised serious doubts over their title aspirations as well as Ciro Ferrara's future as Juventus coach.
