Maresille give up Mancini chase

Marseille will not sign Inter Milan's Mancini after the club president Jean-Claude Dassier accused him of "lack of respect".

Marseille made an offer to the player a week ago after agreeing a deal with Inter which would have seen the former Roma man join until the end of the season but have now pulled out after not receiving a response.

An angry Dassier told French newspaper L'Equipe: "We have turned the page and moved on.

"For me it is a lack of respect and courtesy from him and his agent.

"We sent an offer a week ago and our chief executive Antoine Veyrat and sporting director Jose Anigo went to Milan to meet him four days ago.

"The very least we expected was for him to meet us.

"It is not difficult to say yes or no. If he prefers to watch games on television rather than sign for OM then it's his problem.

"I would like to say, however, that there is no problem with his club who acted perfectly from start to finish."

Marseille have also been linked with Liverpool's Ryan Babel and Bolton striker Johan Elmander in the January transfer window but Dassier denied they were targets.

He added: "It's all bogus. These are rumours spread by agents. We will see in time what (coach) Didier (Deschamps) will do."
