Jose Mourinho was thrilled to be in the running for the Panchina d'Oro award and claims he was not disappointed to lose out.

The honour is bestowed upon the top coach in Serie A for last season, and it is the league's coaches who do the voting.

Massimiliano Allegri of Cagliari was presented with the award in Coverciano after guiding the Sardinian club to an eighth-place finish in the 2008-09 campaign.

"With regards to the Panchina D'Oro, I am satisfied because I have been told I got six or seven votes and that is the true surprise," said Mourinho.

Mourinho guided Inter to their fourth straight scudetto last term.
