Canio: 'Fantantonio' answer to Mutu

Canio: 'Fantantonio' answer to Mutu

The iconic Paolo Di Canio has given his two cents worth on the much debated speculation of Antonio Cassano's move to Fiorentina.

Cassano is wanted as replacement for Adrian Mutu, who is on his way out of Viola after failing his third anti-doping test and is likely to face a ban from Italy's footballing authorities.

The Sampdoria star is thought to be the perfect replacement for Adrian Mutu according to the former West Ham and Lazio star who was quoted by FirenzeViola.it as saying: "It is an uncertain period for Fiorentina, without a great player such as Mutu, and Cassano would have been the ideal substitute for him.

"It is the coach that makes the ultimate decision, and he has chosen this way.

"He has been an extremely important player for the team up to this point, but the side is reacting well without him. It is never easy to have an idol at a club, and keep him happy at all times.

"Cassano is an extraordinary player, but in Florence, he would have given his all as there is so much enthusiasm for him.

Di Canio would  also like to see Timmaso Rocchi in a Viola jersey: "He would have been great for Fiorentina, as he is a player that can get on the end of [Juan] Vargas and [Marco] Marchionni's crosses and finish them. Though, he would not have been at the same level as Mutu," he concluded.
