Italian giants Juventus will launch a summer bid for Liverpool striker Martin Skrtel to shore up their ageing defence.

Current centre back, Italian legend Fabio Cannavaro is 35 years old and showing signs of his age. This has contribued to a poor run for the Bianconeri who are currently seventh in the Serie A table.

If News of the World reports are to be believed, Juventus are of the opinion that the 25-year-old Skrtel would be a good replacement for Cannavaro at the heart of defence.

Skrtel is a hard tackler and possesses good aerial ability, qualities that are highly prized in Serie A. He has established himself as a first team regular under Rafael Benitez after coming to Anfield as a virtual unknown from Russian side Zenit St. Petersburg.
