Gaetano D'Agostino could be out for more than two months after undergoing surgery for a knee injury.

It had hoped that the injury would not keep the playmaker out for too long but during the surgery, the damage was found to be more severe than earlier thought.

A statement on the club's official website said: "Midfielder Gaetano D'Agostino underwent surgery on Monday on his left knee.

"During surgery, a complex lesion of the lateral meniscus was discovered, for which an extensive resection was necessary."

"D'Agostino is expected to return no earlier than two months time."

D'Agostino's injury is a huge blow to Udinese's hopes of avoiding relegation this season.
