Mutu's lawyers confident of dope hearing

Adrian Mutu’s lawyers are confident that the Fiorentina striker will be getting off without too harsh a punishment.

The striker will have to attend a hearing after failing two dope tests.

CONI (the Italian Olympic Committee) will listen to Mutu and his defence team during the first hearing next week.

The Fiorentina hitman had failed two doping tests in January when traces of banned substance subitramine were found in the samples he gave on January 10 and 20, 2010.

The striker is currently serving a temporary ban domestically and internationally during the ongoing investigations.

His lawyers however are confident that the proceedings will pan out well, as Antonio D' Avirro told TGR Toscana.

"We are optimistic and have good faith. We will prove that the substance was not taken to boost his performance and experts have showed us there was a small amount of it in the product," he said.

Michele Ducci who is working with D'Avirro on behalf of Mutu is hoping that the Mutu's previous sanctions will not be taken into account; Mutu had received a lengthy ban in 2004 for using cocaine at Chelsea.

"We hope this incident is not punished as a second violation. It's clear that Mutu is sorry, but we are confident things will be resolved in the best way," he concluded.
