Inter Milan had been linked with the ex-Manchester United striker as a replacement for Mario Balotelli.

According to his agent Ferderico Pastorello, Rossi is only interested in leaving Villarreal if an offer from a "big club" came in.

Previously the Italian striker had said he was comfortable at the La Liga club, but left the window open for a move if the right offer came in.

Inter have been tipped as the front runners for the hitman as Mario Balotelli edges closer to Manchester City.

"The situation is clear, he will leave Villarreal, a team in which he finds himself well, only for a big European club," Pastorello told Il Corriere dello Sport.

The Rome-based sports daily claims Inter are looking at Rossi as a possible alternative to Balotelli, but attention has also focussed on Liverpool's Dirk Kuyt.
