Roma vs Cesena Preview

Roma fans will have to play the waiting game to see new signing Adriano in action with the Brazilian striker ruled out for a month.

Adriano, who joined the Giallorossi earlier this summer from Flamengo, will miss his team's Serie A opener against promoted side Cesena tomorrow.

The former Inter Milan star sustained a muscle injury in his right leg in training this week.

Despite the setback, last season's Serie A and Coppa Italia runners-up are optimistic they can start the campaign on a winning note.

"We cannot wait to begin," said Roma coach Claudio Ranieri. "We are looking forward to the new campaign and to be as competitive as we were last year."

Ranieri intends to play Mirko Vucinic alongside veteran skipper Francesco Totti in attack.

And full-back John Arne Riise is confident the squad can cope with Adriano's absence.

"He's a great player and having to do without him certainly makes life more difficult. But there is also Vucinic, Totti, (Jeremy) Menez...and they're all ready for tomorrow."

Cesena travel to the Italian capital ready to enjoy their first Serie A game in 20 years.

The promoted outfit could not have asked for a more challenging start to life back in the top flight as AC Milan lie in wait after their trip to the Eternal City.

"We are going to be put to the test right from the start," said Cesena midfielder Luigi Piangerelli.

"But we have a good squad of players, with a lot of willingness to do well on our exciting return to Serie A."

Cesena coach Massimo Ficcadenti will have all of his players available for the game at the Stadio Olimpico with the exception of the suspended Maurizio Lario and the injured Fabio Caserta.
