Udinese vs Genoa Preview
Udinese open the Serie A season against Genoa tomorrow relieved that captain Antonio Di Natale will stay at the club.
The Italy striker turned down an offer from Juventus this week, much to the delight of Udinese president Giampaolo Pozzo.
Di Natale was the top scorer in Serie A last season with an impressive 29 goals in 35 matches despite playing for a struggling team.
Pozzo said: "The player wanted to consider several offers he received, in particular that of Juventus.
"In the end, he has reiterated what he has expressed in recent years, his wish to remain in Udine.
"Udinese expresses its satisfaction following the decision taken by our captain."
New coach Francesco Guidolin will rely on Di Natale to come up with the goods against Genoa, with striker German Denis out injured.
Genoa forward Luca Toni has warned the Grifone will be aiming high this season following their ninth-placed finish last term.
Toni has signed a two-year contract with Genoa having spent the last six months on loan at Roma from Bayern Munich.
The 33-year-old has shown some decent form during pre-season and hopes to make a big impact.
"We are a team with quality," said Toni.
"The coach and Genoa are showing faith in me and I think that helps me."
Toni is one of the several new faces to arrive this summer.
Genoa coach Gian Piero Gasperini looks set to hand debuts to Portugal goalkeeper Eduardo, defender Andrea Ranocchia, Brazilian midfielder Rafinha as well as Toni.
