Chievo vs Catania Preview
Catania travel to Verona to face Chievo tomorrow looking to pick up where they left off last season.
The Sicilian outfit recovered from a terrible first half of the campaign to earn a respectable 13th-place finish.
Catania fans will be hoping their side can start on the right foot this time around.
"Our aim right now is to regroup and above all continue in the way we are heading," said Catania coach Marco Giampaolo, who replaced Sinisa Mihajlovic at the end of last season.
"That means achieving safety as soon as possible and then looking to see how much we can obtain above that."
Giampaolo is waiting on the fitness of goalkeeper Andrea Campagnolo before naming his side for the first game of the season.
Campagnolo has been absent from training this week with a muscle injury and is set to be replaced by Mariano Andujar.
Chievo, meanwhile, begin the new campaign once again focusing primarily on avoiding the drop.
The Flying Donkeys finished one point behind Catania last term.
With a new manager in charge, Stefano Pioli, who left Sassuolo this summer, and a drastic makeover, with 10 new arrivals, there is room for optimism.
"We have a winning mentality," said Chievo midfielder Luca Ariatti.
"That is exactly what Pioli has brought into Chievo and we have reason to be upbeat about our chances.
"But it's going to be crucial for us to start well."
The arrival of experienced Mariano Bogliacino and Roberto Guana has strengthened Chievo's midfield line. Both players are set to start on Sunday.
