Ranieri: Ref to blame for Coppa exit

Ranieri: Ref to blame for Coppa exit

Inter Milan coach Claudio Ranieri was left fuming after his side were eliminated from the Coppa Italia in Wednesday's 2-0 loss to Napoli.

Uruguayan hitman Edinson Cavani bagged a brace for Napoli, one of which came from the penalty spot, and while Ranieri has no problems with referee Rodrigo Cel awarding the Azzurri a spot-kick, he felt his side deserved one as well, after Diego Milito was brought down by Christian Maggio in the area.

"There were two penalties," Ranieri told Rai Sport. "But I have only seen one [given] - and it decided the game.

"And there was also [what should have been] the sending off of Maggio for a last-man foul on Milito."

Ranieri admitted he let his feelings known to Cel after the game, and felt the referee's poor decisions tarnished what had been a positive performance by the Nerazzurri.

"It's true. I went to the referee after the game. I talked to him and I told him my thoughts.

"But it's too bad because we made a good effort, especially in the first half."

Inter will be looking to bounce back from Wednesday's loss when they take on Lecce in the Serie A on Sunday.
